Here are three of my sons first attempts – all from star wars films
He used mpeg streamclip and gimp. Gimp is great for this as it allows you to import as layers, making it really straightforward.
he has some other ideas too so we may do some more this weekend.

My son Miles is hooked on the Star Wars saga right now, and he is going to love the General Greivous GIFs. What’s more, the ATST Walker getting crushed is brilliant.
