If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.
Henry David Thoreau
Love Henry David Thoreau quotes but using this as my excuse for not keeping up with the daily shoot but today I did – feature a plant
I have been experimenting with a cheap macro lens extension – cost about 10 quid on ebay. It is in pieces so can be broken down and used at different focal lengths. Today I tried it with all three pieces on with my indoor cactus sitting on a very sunny windowsill and it seems a bit softer – as it was very hard to focus and stay still without a tripod.
I did one a while ago that I liked with a shorter length. I like both but prefer the first one I think – like a different landscape – soft and inviting – not spiky at all…
No effects after the fact? It just seems so microscopic, an tens to great its own effects. I agree how warm an inviting this cactus is, an what I like most about it is that it seems like something else all together, the inner space of the plant becomes another world for us visually. The power of scale to help us see things differently, particularly a smaller scale.
The world of close-up! Isn’t it amazing how you’ve transformed a prickly, spikey object into something soft and gentle looking!
well I think it was the lens rather than me as I’m being fairly experimental with it at the moment. I am amazed with the soft organic result though. Thanks for the comment.
That’s part of the fun of photography though isn’t it – experimenting and achieving good, pleasing results! So credit to you!
