My partner Tim has been involved with the ds106 course (most notably as the pirate in our radio show), but does not blog regularly. We’ve all gone a bit animated gif mad here and have several in production… I am very very jealous of these animated gifs that he did which I think perfectly capture the tension of The final dual in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…
Hi Lou,
What a cool idea – Eli Wallach’s shifting eyes are really genius. and the movement of Clint’s head is so smooth! What a neat little tryptic!
It took me back to memories of my nephew when he was little – he LOVED that movie for some reason – must be a guy thing –
Thanks also for your thoughtful comments throughout the course. I loved looking at your work and the video of your son was really beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks Suzanne I appreciate your comments. Hope to keep in touch as we keep ds106 alive 4life!
I am a big fan of the film too (bit of a tomboy) which is why I was so mad that I didn’t think of it..
This is great. Right now I’m thinking of the Brady Bunch three by three layout. Shootouts would be a fun set of animated gifs to layout in that style, showing lots of gunfighter close ups in the moment before someone draws.
Everyone looking at each other, you could even included some of the witness bystander closeups!
Lots of fun and great to see ds106 never stops, never sleeps.
MBS is right – think of the possibilities. The Good the Bad and the Ugly and the Brady Bunch are just the beginning.
I’m with MSB and Alan, as soon as I saw these I was think how cool to put them side-by-side and design the movie poster around animated GIFs. It won’t be too long before that happens I imagine, and it would be mint to frame the design around an animated movie poster. I love it!
[…] was inspired this morning by Lou McGill’s post which included animated GIFs of three close-ups from the final shoot-out in The Good, The Bad, and […]
Thanks for the inspiration Lou, I made a swashbuckling Brady Bunch Animated GIF. Hope you like it!

now I know what you all mean (sorry ignorant of the brady bunch) – awesomeness MBS for sure. i did want to put them side by side but didn’t know how. I nearly made it into a movie but then they wouldn’t be happening simultaneously. Your method is fab and I need to do it!!!
